Officials in Howe Community Park shooting 2026 Sacramento County are investigating a violent incident that unfolded Saturday evening at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the time Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were clearing an unsanctioned gathering of hundreds of attendees.
Before the Gunfire
Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office first arrived at Howe Community Park at approximately 6:30 PM on April 18 after being notified of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Not long after, a follow-up call was made about a possible fight taking place at Howe Park.
An overhead unit flew over the park but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Even so, authorities discovered that several hundred individuals had assembled at the park without official sanction.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Responding units moved to clear the area by setting up around the park's perimeter and announcing over their public address systems commanding the crowd to vacate the area. About 15 minutes were allotted for people to comply.
As the crowd was being cleared that an estimated 20 to 25 shots echoed through the night. The shots sent hundreds fleeing. Law enforcement quickly moved to identifying shooting victims.
Four Gunshot Victims
In total, four gunshot victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. The shooting victims — a group of one female and three male victims each apparently in their 20s at the time of the incident — were transported to area medical facilities. Hospital staff confirmed that two victims were in serious condition, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one person's injuries were considered minor. Thankfully, each of the four victims was stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived on scene and helped care for those who had been shot at the scene.
Physical Evidence
The main crime scene was determined to have unfolded near the Cottage Way corridor near the Home Depot situated at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Law enforcement investigators discovered extra shell casings along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were noted in the wrought iron perimeter fencing near the nearby Home Depot. The physical evidence showed that a shooter had been sending rounds south from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot building and parking lot. The store itself was temporarily locked down during the incident. CSI investigators and detectives remained on scene well into the night.
Suspects Detained
Details gathered through scanner monitoring confirmed that a suspect Kia was pulled over in nearby Solano County. Four detainees were held for questioning. Sheriff's units were en route to collect those detained to transport the detainees for formal questioning. Video that was reviewed revealed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
